Hyderabad: Amid the rise in COVID-19 in Telangana, the state health department appealed to people returning from the Kumbh Mela in Uttarakhand to isolate them for 14 days.
It also asked that people who display COVID-19 symptoms to be tested immediately, or call the health care number 104 for an emergency.
More than 2000 people tested positive for the coronavirus at the Kumbh Festival so far in Haridwar.
The COVID-19 protocols, including wearing masks and social distance, were openly violated when lakhs gathered for the largest Hindu pilgrimage.
On 17 April, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for the Kumbh Mela ‘to be symbolic in the midst of the coronavirus crisis ”, emphasizing that it will boost the fight against the pandemic.
In response, Swami Avdheshanand replied: ‘We respect PM Modi’s call. The salvation of lives is sacred. I urge people not to gather in large numbers for the ritual bath and to follow everything Covid protocol. ”
A total of 5,567 new COVID-19 cases were reported on April 21 in Telangana. A total of 2,251 people recovered, while 23 deaths were reported yesterday. The total number COVID cases in the state is 3.73 468. The number of active cases is 49 781.
