Fire accident at speciality chemicals manufacturing unit in MSEZ

No casualties found, according to reports

A fire broke out in Catasynth Speciality Chemicals Pvt Ltd (a subsidiary of the Anthea Group) in Mangalore Special Economic Zone(MSEZ) on Saturday afternoon. 

Quoting the manager of the manufacturing unit, Mangaluru City Police said there are no casualties due to the fire accident. Loss to the plant and cause of fire are yet to be ascertained.

Officials from Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) said the Fire and Safety Department of the company extended support for firefighting at Catasynth Specialty Chemicals Pvt Ltd in MSEZ. 

After receiving request for assistance from the fire control room of the MSEZ, foam tender of the MRPL was sent to site for extinguishing the fire along with other 12 fire-fighting vehicles. 

Fire tenders from the Kadri fire station of the Karnataka Fire Services Department, New Mangalore Port Trust, Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers, and HPCL were rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. 

MRPL foam tender engaged in foam application and poured around 10,000 litres of foam over process area and trenches to douse the fire,the officials said. Fire continued till 6 pm.

Catasynth Speciality Chemicals Pvt Ltd operates a greenfield facility in Mangaluru, manufacturing catechol-based products such asMethylenedioxybenzene, Piperonal, Helional and Piperonyl Butoxide.
