AISC amends standards for the automotive industry

New Delhi: To revolutionize the transportation of goods and reduce overall logistics costs, the Automotive Industry Standards Committee has amended its AIS-113 standard to include the safety requirements of road trains, an official statement said.

A road train is a truck that consists of two or more trailers or trailers that are transported by a main mover. The statement by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said that the standards were prepared after the European standards were examined, taking into account the Indian operating conditions.

These standards will pave the way for a breakthrough for the fast and efficient transportation of goods along the long-distance cargo aisles, he added. The ministry posted the concept ‘Standard for Road-Trains’ on its website on Friday.

The statement said it was used on certain pieces to reduce congestion, save fuel and reduce noise and air pollution. The Standing Committee on the Automotive Industry (AISC) includes representatives of the relevant ministries, testing agencies, industry stakeholders, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

The amended standard AIS-113 (Code of Conduct for the approval of trailers / semitrailers of categories T2, T3 and T4 towed by motor vehicles of category N2 and N3) has been published for the invitation of public comment, after which it will be notified in due course.
