
Actor Amit Mistry passed away on Friday after suffering a cardiac arrest at his home in Mumbai. He was 47. The actor, who made his name in the Gujarati theatre circuit, went on to do memorable roles in Bollywood movies including Kya Kehna, Ek Chalis Ki Last Local, 99, Shor In The City, Yamla Pagla Deewana and A Gentleman as well as TV and OTT shows. Tenali Rama, Ssshhh…Koi Hai, Maddam Sir and Shubh Mangal Savadhan were among his prominent shows.
Amit’s manager Maharshi Desai confirmed the news of his death to indianexpress.com. “I spoke to Amit’s mother. It is true that he is no more. He passed away after suffering a massive cardiac arrest this morning. He was at his house in Andheri, Mumbai with his parents and passed away on the spot, before they could get any help,” the manager said.
His untimely death left his colleagues, friends and fans shocked. The Indian Film TV Producers Council condoled his death on Twitter, “Shocking and Deeply Saddening news of one of the talented actor Amit Mistry passing away…Heartfelt condolence to family and friends..RIP.”
Actors Karanvir Bohra, Karan V Grover, Jacqueline Fernandes, Sumeet Vyas, Kubbra Sait, Rajesh Tailang, Cyrus Sahukar, Rajesh Tailang and many others offered their condolences on social media. Filmmaker duo Raj and DK said they were ‘devastated’ to know about Mistry’s death. The duo tweeted, “Devastated that Amit Mistry is no more! He was very special to us! Kuber (99), Tipu (SITC), Jignesh (A Gentleman), Prakhaand Pandit (current series)…in every script of ours, we subconsciously wrote a part for him. Heartbroken! Every time we write a script, he will be missed :(.”
They added, “Amit was incredibly spiritual and our last chat was about relationships and careers and how they impact a man… prophetically he had said, they could make or break a person. The times are so excruciatingly bad, that it damages the best of us. Rest In Peace, Amit.”
TV actor Kiku Sharda called Amit Mistry a "wonderful actor and a soulful singer." He wrote in Twitter, "Was a senior of mine in college, a friend, a colleague. Did lots of plays together, partied together. Will miss him. Wonderful actor and a soulful singer. Gone too soon brother May your soul rest in peace."

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah actor Dilip Joshi is heartbroken after hearing about the demise of his friend Amit Mistry. He wrote on Instagram, "Our trio’s broken today. But the memories will always stay with me. Will miss Amit and his wisecracks more than I can say. He was a lovely man, a treat to work with and a delight to watch in action. Never thought I’d be writing something like this for him. May his soul achieve sadgati, and may God give us the strength to cope with such a huge loss."

Wagle Ki Duniya actor Sumeet Raghvan is shocked by the sudden death of his friend Amit Mistry. "The death of a dear friend has left us all shattered. We had done some crazy work, travelled the world with our Gujarati play, had innumerable music sessions, fun, laughs and today he is no more. Amit Mistry suffers a cardiac arrest. Yes we all have to die but this is just too much," the actor wrote on Twitter.
Jacqueline Fernandez also mourned the death of Amit Mistry on social media.

Actor Ajay Singh Chaudhary, who has worked with late actor Amit Mistry in Tenali Rama, mourned his death. He said, ”Amit Mistry was a talented actor. This is an unbearable loss. He was part of the show Tenali Rama where he worked for two months. When I got to know that he will be playing the role of Birbal in the show I was very happy. I had seen his previous work and knew of his talent. My first meeting with him was very warm. He was a very vibrant personality and had a smiling face. I have shared few scenes with him in the show as well. Off camera, our discussion was always around his craft and films. We used to exchange our thoughts regarding acting.”
Television actor Karan V Grover shared Amit Mistry's photo on Instagram writing, "Shocking and saddening! Supremely talented #amitmistry passes away . R.I.P brother .."
Actor Rajesh Tailang, who played Amit's brother in Bandish Bandits shared a still from the web show remembering their time together. He wrote in Hindi that he cannot believe that a cheerful person like Amit has passed away. Rajesh added that he is sure Amit will be spreading happiness wherever he is.
