New Delhi: “I did my best, I do not know how it came about,” the outgoing Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sharad Arvind Bobde said in his farewell speech when he retired on Friday. Judge Bobde was sworn in as the 47th CJI in November 2019 and had a term of office of more than 17 months.
Supreme Court Judge Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana is sworn in as India’s 48th Chief Justice today at 11am. Born on 27 August 1957 in an agricultural family in the town of Ponnavaram in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, NV Ramana holds a B.Sc. and Bachelor of Laws. He enrolled as a lawyer on February 10, 1983. He has practiced in civil, criminal, constitutional, labor, employment and electoral matters in the Supreme Court of Andhra Pradesh, the Central and Andhra Pradesh Administrative Tribunals and the Supreme Court of India. His specialization lies in constitutional, criminal, service and interstate river laws.
