Covid-19: SA records 55 more deaths as cases increase by 1 413

  • South Africa has recorded 1 571 348 Covid-19 cases.
  • There have been 1 413 new cases recorded.
  • The death toll is 53 995, after 55 more fatalities were recorded.  

South Africa has recorded 1 413 new Covid-19 infections and 55 more deaths, taking the confirmed death toll to 53 995.

Of the 55 deaths, 11 were recorded in the Eastern Cape, 14 in the Free State, 20 in Gauteng, three in KwaZulu-Natal, one in Mpumalanga, and six in the Western Cape.

"We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers who treated the deceased," Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said in a statement.

By Thursday, the country recorded a total of 1 571 348 cases.

KwaZulu-Natal recorded the most active cases with 5 041, followed by the Northern Cape's 3 554 and Gauteng's 3 231.

The recovery rate stands 95% with 1 496 756 recoveries.

To date, 10 447 673 tests have been completed.
