IPL 2021: DC’s Avesh Khan says, ‘Rishabh Pant is a bowler’s captain, thankful he gave me chance over Umesh & Ishant’– Delhi Capitals pacer Avesh Khan, who is one of the find out of the ongoing season of IPL 2021, credited his recent success to newly-appointed DC captain Rishabh Pant. In an exclusive interview with insidesport.co, Khan stated Pant an aggressive captain who backs his bowlers in all situations to perform well. He offered gratitude to Pant as the captain provided him key opportunities ahead of senior players like Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav. It is notable that the Madhya Pradesh-based pacer has emerged as one of the highest wicket-taker in the ongoing IPL season. He has scalped 8 wickets in the first 4 matches.

1. How has the experience been so far in IPL 2021?AK: It’s been great so far as I have picked eight wickets in four matches. I feel I am in a good rhythm. Most importantly, coaches have been backing me and showing faith in me. They are giving me the opportunity over senior players like Ishant (Sharma) bhai and Umesh (Yadav) bhai, and I feel I have been doing well so far. I am happy about the performance. I am giving 100% and making the most out of the opportunity I am getting this time.
   
   2. Any conversation with MS Dhoni after the match?AK: We didn’t get much time during the post-match catch-ups as he was called for the presentation ceremony. But, he just said “well bowled and keep up the good work”.3. On Rishabh Pant’s captaincy?AK: Rishabh is a very aggressive captain, and I feel he is a bowler’s captain. He always backs his bowlers. As we have experienced so far, whenever the game seems to go in the batsman’s favour, Rishabh will take out some time on the field to communicate with the bowlers and discuss the plans. I feel that’s one of the best things about him as a captain. He backs his bowlers in all the situations.4. You have seen Rishabh’s journey from close quarters, so how mature he has become as cricketer after getting the captaincy?

   AK: Rishabh has been an aggressive player since U-19. His approach has always been different from others. Whenever he bats, he always try to put the opponent team under pressure and that’s what makes him an X factor for the team. And, obviously, he had matured enough because he understands the situations well and bats accordingly. It feels really good to watch him play like this.
   
   5. How much you miss Iyer and what are the chances for DC to go one step further from the last season?AK: Of course, we have been missing him (Shreyas), his presence makes our batting line-up strong, but you know, we can’t do anything. Injuries are part and parcel of a player’s life and you never know what sort of injuries you may pick. However, under Rishabh’s captaincy as well we have been playing with the same intensity and try to win as many games as we can and hopefully qualify for the playoffs and win the IPL this time. But, for that, we gotta play some good cricket and give 100% in each and every game.
