A man killed after reports of a fight in a supermarket car park has been named as 49-year-old Matthew Tester.

Mr Tester, known locally as Tik, was reportedly hit by a car behind Marks & Spencer in Church Street, in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey.

Police were called at 14:15 BST on Thursday, where a second man was found with serious injuries.

A 26-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

The second victim, who in his 40s, is being treated in hospital. His injuries are serious but not life-threatening.

Police have said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the attack, but are appealing for witnesses.

Det Ch Insp Dave Springett said the force was "working hard to build up a picture of events".

He added: "It appears an altercation has taken place, leading to a physical confrontation, which then resulted in one of the group getting into his car and driving at two of the other men.

"A local man has sadly lost his life and our thoughts are very much with his family who are being supported by specialist officers at this difficult time."

A white BMW, suspected of being the vehicle involved, was found in Temple Field Close, Addlestone, after the incident, and has been recovered by police.

Sgt Pat Bauer from Elmbridge's neighbourhood team, said it is believed to be an isolated incident.

"There have been some reports speculating about road rage but initial inquiries do not support this and it is believed some of the parties were previously known to each other," she added.

Officers remain in the area conducting house-to-house inquiries.
