Hyderabad: Zone Startups India’s annual Next Big Idea (NBI) contest has launched an application for its 8th edition in which tech beginners can apply to gain access to the North American market through a soft landing in Canada. First launched in 2013, 49 start-ups helped expand to Canada, raising a total of $ 325 million with seven acquired, and about 17 new businesses set up offices in the global market.
The application process for the match is open until May 23 and the winner will be announced on June 9. The mapping for North American expansion takes place between June 10 and 20, and from June 21 to September 10, the virtual NBI and landing program will be implemented.
The High Commission of Canada, Andrew Smith, Minister (Commercial), said: ‘This contest offers a huge number of opportunities for new businesses from India to expand their operations to North American and Canadian regions. Canada has been the focus of innovation and our successful entrepreneurial ecosystem will help startups grow in this country. ”
The competition, which is a joint initiative of Zone Startups India, which is part of BRTSiF, Ontario Canada and Invest in Canada, has three phases – awareness in which NBI Webtalks will provide details on business opportunities, a three-country program that includes three month-long program to support startups expanding into Canada, local cohort program taking startups to Canada for two weeks.
Hemant Gupta, managing director of Bil-Ryerson Technology Startup Incubator Foundation, said: “Zone Startups, which is part of BRTSiF, has so far incubated 140 startups, and with this we have had a vertical female entrepreneurship, a BSE -Impact vertically for social entrepreneurs and many other initiatives to help startups. ”
