London: The English and Welsh Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Friday that fast bowler Jofra Archer will not play in the ongoing 14th Indian Premier League, exacerbating the misery of Rajasthan Royals.
The 26-year-old Archer returned with a higher intensity to bowl this week, and the medical teams of the ECB and Sussex will continue to monitor his progress. “Archer will now tighten up his training regime next week and will train fully with Sussex. “The expectation is that he will return to cricket in the next two weeks if he can continue to bowl and prepare pain-free,” the ECB said in a statement.
“The ECB will confirm in time what matches it will play.” Last week, Archer gave the hand of his hand consultant to resume his training, as his right hand still healed after his operation on March 29th.
His RR franchise RR desperately hoped he would be available at least during the end of the tournament. Archer cut his hand when he cleaned his home in January shortly before flying to India to prepare for the Test series earlier this year.
The ECB medical team managed the injury throughout the tour, and it did not affect its availability. A glass fragment was removed during the operation on his middle finger on his right hand.
Rajasthan Royals, director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara, acknowledged that missing Archer was a ‘big blow’ and hoped he would ‘be available at some point’.
