Karnataka Covid lockdown news live: Despite surge, positivity rate is constant in south Karnataka districts

People bracing for the weekend curfew across Karnataka were in for a rude shock on Thursday as police teams went around markets in the afternoon, getting all non-essential commercial activities to shut down. The move followed a decision by the Karnataka government to strictly impose a partial lockdown on weekdays and a complete lockdown on the weekends till May 4 in a desperate bid to curtail the rapidly spiralling chain of Covid-19 infections. The Karnataka government on Thursday decided to purchase 1crore doses of Covishield for Rs 400 crore to vaccinate people between 18 and 45 years from May 1. Despite surge, positivity rate is constant in south Karnataka districts

Although the number of fresh Covid cases are surging in South Karnataka in recent days, the positivity rate remains constant in all districts.In the southern region, Hassan recorded a highest positivity rate of 5.5% while Shivamogga recorded lowest positivity rate of 2.1%. According to the war room report dated April 13, the positivity rate in the preceding week in Hassan was 5.5%. It remained unchanged till Tuesday, April 20. Similarly Mysuru recorded 5% positivity rate, Chamarajanagar and Chikkamagalur (3.6%), Mandya (2.7%), Kodagu (2.2%) and Shivamogga (2.1%) and it continued till Tuesday in all districts.
