For many South African organisations, getting on the cloud was “what” they wanted to do. But new hybrid multi-cloud-enabled business models, applications and infrastructure are “why and how” they want to and can do it.

Typically, the choice of cloud platforms involved a decision between public or private. A hybrid cloud platform approach takes that a step further, operating across multiple environments. Companies are increasingly aligning their business transformation with the orchestration of their cloud platforms to align to their business imperatives. This next-generation model enables an agile organisation fuelled by data, guided by artificial intelligence (AI) insights and built for change on a hybrid cloud – IBM calls this the Cognitive Enterprise. This transformation trend is likely to become even more important as organisations reset to do business post-pandemic.

This IBM Institute for Business Value report, co-authored by Hamilton Ratshefola, Craig Holmes and Riaz Osman, outlines the five key steps to implementing a cloud management platform that delivers the benefits of a hybrid multi-cloud environment.
