New Delhi: With major hospitals reporting a shortage of oxygen supply due to an unprecedented spike in the COVID cases in the national capital. The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has set up a 24×7 control room to redress grievances, complaints from city hospitals within 30 minutes.
The Delhi government on Thursday informed that the oxygen stocks have dried up in six private hospitals. The statement came soon after a Delhi High Court order asked the Centre to ensure that the national capital receives its full quota.
Saroj Super Specialty Hospital and Shanti Mukund Hospital have been raising the issue of oxygen shortage since morning. Saroj Super Specialty Hospital had approached the High Court this afternoon, appealing for release of oxygen by supplier INOX, after which it received a few hours’ supply.
Tirath Ram Shah Hospital, UK Nursing Home, Rathi Hospital and Santom Hospital have run out of oxygen, the Delhi government said.

Delhi’s Shanti Mukand Hospital chief Dr Sunil Saggar broke into tears on Thursday saying that they have only two hours of oxygen supply left. Talking to ANI, Saggar said he had told doctors to discharge patients who can be discharged. Stating that 110 people are on oxygen support, he broke down saying that patients would die if they come here as they did not have oxygen.
“Our oxygen stock has almost finished. Because of the COVID situation, the demand has increased. In a normal patient, we give 2, 4 or 6 litres of oxygen but when a patient of COVID comes we may have to give 14, 15 litres or 18 litres depending upon the severity of the disease,” said Saggar.
