Punjab: 130 FIRs registered against violators of COVID-19 norms
- A total of 130 FIRs were registered against violators of COVID-19 norms in the last 24 hours across the state, Punjab Police has informed.
- Police also said that 189 owners of shops, dhabas, ahaatas, hotels, restaurants, clubs were booked for flouting number limits and night curfew timings in the state.
- Punjab has imposed a ban on all social, political, religious and cultural gatherings and announced that all malls, shops, markets, bars, cinema halls, gyms, spas, coaching centres and sports complexes in the state will stay closed till April 30.
NASA's Perseverance Mars rover extracts first oxygen from Red Planet
- The growing list of "firsts" for Perseverance, NASA's newest six-wheeled robot on the Martian surface, includes converting some of the Red Planet's thin, carbon dioxide-rich atmosphere into oxygen.
- In a press release, NASA said that a toaster-size, experimental instrument aboard Perseverance called the Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment (MOXIE) accomplished the task. The test took place April 20, the 60th Martian day, or sol, since the mission landed on February 18.
Not feasible to club remaining phases of West Bengal polls: EC
- The Election Commission on Wednesday told Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Derek O'Brien that it is not feasible to club the remaining three phases of the ongoing West Bengal assembly elections amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
- "EC has already mandated detailed guidelines to ensure that safety norms are adhered to without any exceptions," it added.

Earthquake of magnitude 4.3 hits Andaman and Nicobar
- An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 on the Richter scale struck the Andaman Islands in the wee hours on Thursday.
- According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake hit the Andaman and Nicobar islands at 1:04 am.
- The epicentre of the earthquake was 97 km east (E) of Portblair, the agency said.
- No loss of human life and property has been reported as of now.
