BHUBANESWAR: Students had a mixed reaction to the state government cancelling the Class X board exams owing to a spike in Covid-19 cases. Some students felt all their efforts would go to waste, while others held the view that life is more important than exams.
“We welcome the state government’s decision to scrap the exam. The speed at which the cases are multiplying, exam halls could well turn into Covid hotspots. Moreover, if any student gets infected, he or she could be a potential carrier,” Bandana Sahu, a Class X student, said.
However, the state’s decision came as a huge disappointment to those who have been preparing for the exam for the last one year. “The news of cancellation is very disheartening as I was expecting to do very well in the exam. The Class X board exam is a milestone in every student’s life and we should have got to experience it. Besides, the exam would have helped in proper assessment of students for higher studies,” Bal Gopal Panda, another class X student, said.
