The second wave of COVID-19 has been hard on people across India. With several states imposing curfew and lockdown-like restrictions, most people are trapped in their homes in order to contain the spread of the virus.

To assist everyone in these difficult times, food delivery and restaurant aggregator major Zomato has launched a new service to cater to those affected by COVID-19.

This new service is aimed at helping COVID patients who’re quarantining at home and are in need of meals on priority or someone who is taking care of a COVID patient and requires a quick food delivery.

This new feature is available on the Zomato App for both Apple and Android smartphones and all deliveries under this feature will be contactless to ensure the safety of delivery agents.

“At Zomato, we will prioritise these orders by providing fastest rider assignment, and dedicated customer support in case of queries. Thousands of restaurants have pledged to prioritise these orders in their kitchen above all others,” Zomato Founder Deepinder Goyal said in a tweet.

“All deliveries to such customers will be contactless by default to ensure the safety of our riders, and subsequent customers. Needless to say, all customers should opt in for contactless deliveries right now. A big thank you to the entire restaurant industry for joining hands to serve our customers who need us the most right now,” he said.

How to order food on ‘priority’ on Zomato:

Step 1- Open the Zomato App.

Step 2- Place your order.

Step 3- Now, go to your cart.

Step 4- Here, tick on the checkbox reading ‘This order is related to a COVID-19 emergency’.

Step 5- You order will be put on priority. You can make your payment and proceed.

Although this is a benevolent initiative by Zomato, the company has requested people to not ‘misuse’ it.

“We will prepare & deliver the order on priority. It will be a contactless delivery… please don’t misuse it,” it said.
