Pakistan court grants bail to Leader of Opposition

Islamabad, Apr 22(UNI) The Lahore High Court (LHC) granted post-arrest bail to Pakistan's Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday in a money laundering case.

As per Dawn, the court asked the PML-N leader to furnish two bail bonds, both being Rs five million each.

Shehbaz's counsel said the leader would be released from jail on Friday, after payment of the bail bonds.

PML-N vice-president Maryam Nawaz welcomed the court's decision and Twitted that Shehbaz has finally been given justice.

She wrote that services rendered by Shehbaz to the nation cannot be erased through false cases.

Shehbaz was arrested on September 28, 2020, in a money laundering case after the LHC refused to further extend his pre-arrest bail.

Prior to this he was granted interim pre-arrest bail on June 3, 2020.

Post his arrest, he remained in the bureau’s custody for 23 days till the court sent him on judicial remand on October 20, 2020.
