Macross Will Be Getting Official Releases Outside of Japan From April 9 Onwards - Super Dimensional Fortress Macross

After having spent decades in copyright limbo, sequels to the classic Macross series of anime will finally be getting official western releases. Bigwest has announced that it will be releasing all Macross-related works made after 1987 worldwide from April 9.

Bigwest's release plan includes not only the currently-in-production movie Macross Delta, but also new material that will come out afterwards as well. According to the press release, the release of Macross media isn't restricted to just anime. Games, toys, live performances, and other content and merchandise will also be getting western releases.

The Macross series, debuting as Super Dimension Fortress Macross back in 1982, was originally released in the west as part of the Robotech series. It also aired in India as Robotech on Star Plus back in the 90s. Its sequels never got an official release outside of Japan owing to copyright and licensing disputes between various stakeholders.

"I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to all the people involved who have helped bring Macross to the world," said creator of the Macross franchise Shoji Kawamori.

Unfortunately, Bigwest hasn't revealed what exactly will be released starting on April 9, but the company has set up a YouTube channel for fans of the series outside of Japan where it will announce what's next for Macross and Robotech.

Curently, the main video on the Macross YouTube channel is the Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Flash Back 2012 montage, which focuses on Lynn Minmay's various feelings before her departure from Earth with the huge space colony ship SDF-2 Megaroad-01.
