Four golfers lead the European Tour's Gran Canaria Open after the first round on Thursday with a pack of South African's hot on their heels.
Robin Roussel (FRA), Maximilian Kieffer (GER), Joost Luiten (NED) and Joachim B. Hansen (DEN) all shot seven-under 63's at the Meloneras Golf Course that saw a host of low scores as 107 players shot below par for the round.
Four South Africans find themselves in the hunt after Thursday's opening round with Garrick Higgo, Justin Harding, Dean Burmester all shooting 65's while Zander Lombard shot a 66 to be three off the pace.
Denmark's Hansen, who produced a hole-in-one on the 14th was more than happy with is start.
"Seven under is a good score. I played pretty good and gave myself quite a few chances and made some nice putts coming down the stretch. It’s a good start and we’ll see what tomorrow brings."
Speaking of the hole-in-one, Hansen said: "It was a perfect number for me to hit a wedge," he said. "It’s tucked just over the bunker but you can use the slope, right to left, I pitched it on the slope with a bit of spin and it went in. It’s one of these bonus things that happens sometimes, it’s always nice to make a hole-in-one."
