Mercury crosses 40°C in 12 towns

BHUBANESWAR: Day temperature in 12 towns was between 40 and 42 degree Celsius on Tuesday.
Sonepur and Boudh recorded the state’s highest temperature of 42.1 and 42 degree Celsius respectively. The city recorded a maximum of 39.7 degree Celsius.
The IMD forecast said the rising trend would continue across the state for the next four-five days. Besides, chances of thunderstorm activities would prevail in isolated places in some districts for three days from Wednesday, the forecast said. Director of the regional IMD centre H R Biswas said the prevailing day temperature trend would continue for another four-five days with minor fluctuations. He said thunderstorm were expected mostly in the western and interior parts of the state.
For Wednesday, such thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind was expected at 10 districts.
