Ranchi: With the second wave of the pandemic here, the
Jharkhand Legal Services Authority (
Jhalsa) established a central ‘war room’ in Ranchi and other units in the districts which will be operational for 24x7 to help people in distress, mainly those who need Covid-related assistance.
Under the leadership of it executive chairman, Justice Aparesh Kumar of the high court, Jhalsa has come out with a new standard operating procedure for the district legal services authorities (DLSA) across the state to help patients affected with
Covid.
Meetings were also held with the chief secretary and other department secretaries by Singh to streamline the programme. “Our para legal volunteers are a trained work force and can be utilised for the benefit of the government. The present spate of the pandemic has crippled the system. A response on a phone call and ensuring assistance to the people will help calm the situation,” Jhalsa member secretary Muhammad Shakir said.
The district war rooms will coordinate with patients and the district administration, including the civil surgeons, to provide assistance to patients down with Covid-19 and others requiring help.
Shakir said, “Jhalsa and DLSA offices will be equipped with pulse oximeters and other basic medicines which will be provided to patients.” The concept of a ‘war room’ amid the pandemic was conceptualised by Singh, who took over the reins of Jhalsa from Justice H C Mishra after his superannuation.
“Government doctors sent by the civil surgeon and private doctors who will volunteer will also provide primary treatment and consultation to the patients,” Shakir said.
