SEC continues municipal elections despite nightmare

Hyderabad: The State Electoral Commission (SEC) said today that it will hold the upcoming municipal election in two corporations and five municipalities, regardless of the night clock. It asked the political parties to launch their election campaign according to per Covid 19 virus norms and added that only five people should participate in the election campaign.

It is said that the election campaign must end every day before 18:00. It banned the organization of public meetings and road shows in the poll that connected urban bodies. The commission issued these orders following the representation of the various political parties and insisted on postponing the election. The commission asked the state government for an answer on the issue and wrote a letter to the secretary general of the state.

In response to the letter, the CS requested the Commission to hold the election in the usual manner without delay.

The congress party even approached the Supreme Court on the matter and asked the court to postpone the election by citing several obstacles to their election campaign due to the spread of the virus and restrictions imposed by the state government on holding public meetings and road shows. In response to the petition, the HK refused to hold the petition and asked the congressional party leaders to approach the SEC on the issue.
