Goa records new high of 1,502 fresh COVID cases in a day

The state on Wednesday witnessed the highest-ever spike in daily COVID-19 cases, as 1,502 more people  tested positive for the coronavirus pandemic.

The positivity rate also jumped to all-time high as on Wednesday, 36.73 per cent of the total 4,089 samples were found to be positive for the virus.  

Goa’s COVID-19 death count mounted to 943, as 17 more patients succumbed to the deadly virus in the last 24 hours, these 17 also include two COVID-19 positive patients who were brought dead to the hospital.

In the last three days, the pandemic has claimed 60 lives in the state.  

As per the details shared by the DHS of the 1,502 persons who tested positive for the pandemic in the last 24 hours, around 158 of them have been hospitalized at different health facilities across the state.

The confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Goa currently stand at 70,814 of which 9,300 are active cases while 60,571 patients have defeated the deadly disease.

Of these 9,300 active COVID-19 cases, majority fall under the jurisdiction of Urban Health Centre of Margao (998), followed by Primary Health Centre of Porvorim (782) and Candolim (771).

According to the DHS, active positive cases in the jurisdictions of other urban health centres stand as follows: Vasco – 567 cases, Panaji- 616 and Mapusa – 567 cases.

While, active positive cases in the jurisdictions of community health centres are as follows: Sankhali – 306 cases, Bicholim – 190 cases, Pernem – 202 cases, Valpoi – 120 cases, Curchorem – 147 cases and Canacona – 121 cases.

And, active positive cases in the jurisdictions of primary health centres stand as follows: Aldona – 174 cases, Betki – 66 cases, Candolim – 771 cases, Cansarvanem – 52 cases, Colvale – 177 cases, Corlim – 157 cases, Chimbel – 288 cases, Siolim – 262 cases, Porvorim- 782 cases, Mayem – 52 cases,  Balli – 135 cases, Cansaulim – 297 cases, Chinchinim – 128 cases, Cortalim – 531 cases, Curtorim – 163 cases, Loutolim – 150 cases, Marcaim – 86 cases, Quepem – 110 cases, Sanguem – 74 cases, Shiroda- 137 cases, Dharbandora – 105 cases, Ponda – 587 cases and Navelim – 161 cases.
