The oxygen in some of the Delhi’s biggest Covid hospitals have been refilled on Tuesday night, hours after the healthcare facilities reported oxygen shortage and flagged the issue in court through appeals by politicians, including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Oxygen tankers arrived late on Tuesday at some of the biggest hospitals, including Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital which were merely hours away from running out of stock.
Sir Ganga Ram hospital received 4,500 cubic meters of oxygen from a private vendor and 6,000 cubic meters from INOX late night on Tuesday. The existing supply should last for 24 hours till Thursday morning. At present, the total requirement is 11,000 cubic meters. Indian Oxygen Limited and Inox have promised to refill the tanks during the day, said Dr. D.S. Rana, Chairman of the hospital.

Meanwhile, officials at Max Hospital in east Delhi’s Patparganj, however, said that one consignment from Inox, which was expected at 2 am, arrived only at 8 this morning. Even this consignment is not enough to last beyond the afternoon, they said. Of the 300 patients in the hospital, 200 are on oxygen support, officials there said.
The shortage of oxygen was raised by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other ministers of his cabinet. Calling it a serious oxygen crisis, the CM urged the Centre to immediately provide oxygen to the city.
