AmaZulu head coach Benni McCarthy believes that Mamelodi Sundowns "parked the bus" as their DStv Premiership encounter ended in a goalless draw.
The feisty encounter took place at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday as both sides were not willing to drop points.
Log leaders Sundowns saw more of the ball in the first half, with Usuthu piling on the pressure in the second stanza.
However, the gruelling match ended with neither side rattling the back of the net.
Speaking to the media after the match, McCarthy reckons that Masandawana defensively parked the bus in their attempt not to concede.
"In the end, a fair result for both teams but a more disappointing one for me because I think three points is what will take us ever so close to Sundowns, to our rivals, and a draw suited them very much, and they still stay six points ahead of us,” McCarthy said.
"They would be happier, but I am extremely proud of my players, the whole team in general for the tenacity that they have, the character and the hunger and desire that they show, to be so dominant against a Sundowns team where so many people have said, 'when teams play Sundowns they literally park the bus'.
"And I could swear, it was a little bit other way around because in a long time I haven’t seen (Sphelele) Mkhulise, (Lebo) Maboe, Rivaldo Coetzee, Lyle Lakay, and (Thapelo) Morena defend as much as they did today because they were on the backfoot from our players."
AmaZulu shifts their focus to Saturday as they take on TS Galaxy (17:00) before travelling to the Mother City for a clash against McCarthy’s former side Cape Town City next Wednesday (17:00).
