Jagtial: Merchants usually take all precautions to prevent being cheated by customers. However, a farmer came up with an innovative idea – he relied on the honesty of his customers rather than on any middleman or employee to sell his vegetables.
Edmala Mallareddy, a native of Laxmapur of the Jagtial Mandal, has set up a vegetable stall near Jabithapur on the Jagitial-Peddapalli highway attracting consumers from surrounding towns.
Unlike other stores, the stall is unmanned and has a flexi banner with a price tag. Consequently, customers pick up vegetables and throw the money in a box. If they do not have enough cash, they can make online payment by scanning the QR code. Mallareddy earns $ 300 to $ 500 million a day from selling vegetables at the stall.
In ‘Telangana Today’, Mallareddy said the store is getting a lot of customer response. People honestly throw the money in the box and surprisingly, no money or vegetables were stolen from the store. Asked about the absence of someone to monitor transactions, he makes an interesting argument. He explained that he spends most of his day on the farm and has no time to sit at the stall. If someone is employed, he must be paid 300 R per day.
“Since intermediaries dominate the markets, no farmers get a price, and consumers are also not spared spending a large amount on necessities. Therefore, I decided to set up this vegetable stall where the prices are reasonable and much lower than in the market. Consumers are also happy that they get vegetables cheaply, ”he added. People who want to buy in bulk are advised to visit the farm Mallareddy in the town.
Mallareddy, who is a BA, B.Ed. graduate, planted the vegetables and fruits using his organic methods in his seven acres of land. He developed an integrated farm by spending Rs 15 lakh over the past three years. In addition to vegetables, he also grows fruit-bearing plants, including mango, carnation, custard, papaya, guava, cashmere and other berries. Chickens, ducks, rabbits, turkeys and other animals are also raised on the farm.
