BHUBANESWAR: On Civil Services Day, a man lodged a complaint against a senior IAS officer with Saheed Nagar police station for allegedly assaulting him when the former’s pet dog defecated at the entrance of the bureaucrat’s home near Regional College Chhak here on Wednesday morning.
“I was taking a walk, along with my pet dog, around 6am when it ran towards the IAS officer’s home and defecated outside it. Seeing strangers, the IAS officer’s dog started barking. He then let his dog loose to attack me. I caught hold of the dog’s neck, following which the officer kicked and assaulted me,” Kalucharan Parida (54), the complainant, said.
Parida, who is an employee of the health department, said he sustained injuries in his left leg after falling on the ground after being thrashed. “The officer’s security guard also attacked me. I want justice,” Parida said.
Parida’s initial complaint, however, did not bear the IAS officer’s name. “I could not recollect his name immediately. So, my son wrote the complaint and mentioned the IAS officer’s quarter number only. After ascertaining the name, we requested the police to receive our updated complaint, which bore the accused’s name. But the police refused to accept the revised complaint,” Parida added.
No case was registered against the IAS officer till the evening. Police said the charges were being verified. “We have received the complaint and are looking into it. Saheed Nagar police are examining the allegation,” deputy commissioner of police Uma Shankar Dash said.
