I took my 2005 Civic to the mechanic as it needed new brakes. He's telling me the repair would be $1000 and that the car is worth less than that and that I should scrap it.
It just crossed my mind that this could be a scam to basically steal my car and resell it for profit. After looking at its value it seems to be worth around $3000 and I specified undriveable condition (it needs new brake rotors, pads and brake lines and the AC lost its gas).
Does anyone know the value of a 2005 Honda Civic sedan in undriveable condition?
Do you think he's trying to scam me by saying my car isn't worth fixing so he can resell it for profit or is he likely telling me the truth?
I thought it made sense until I saw it seems my car is still worth $3000, he's offering me $200 to scrap it, I was assuming it was worth under $500 when it was still driveable.

What's wrong with it?
Saw it in the OP.
He is full of chit if you are living in America though.
The pads and rotors are a DIY job. It wouldn't take you long to do.
He is probably lying about the condition of the brake lines btw.
Check out Ericthecarguy on youtube. He has videos on how to do the repairs needed.Last edited by Tornach; Today at 04:07 PM.

It probably is only worth $1500 unless it's very low miles. Brake lines are probably fine unless you live somewhere with lots of rust issues. You could put pads and rotors on it yourself for $100. The ac low on refrigerant doesn't stop you from driving it.
