New Delhi, Apr 21 (UNI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, referring to the announcement by Serum Institute of India (SII) on Wednesday of reserving 50 per cent of vaccines for Centre while rest for States and open market at Rs 400 and Rs 600 respectively, alleged that Covid crisis is like a fortune for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's friends while misfortune for States.

"Crisis in the country, a fortune for Modi's friends, misfortune for States," Mr Rahul wrote in Hindi on his official Twitter handle.

The SII announced the prices for its COVID vaccine Covishield. The vaccine will be available at a price of Rs 400 per shot to state governments while Rs 600 to private hospitals.

Fifty per cent of the capacities will be served to the Government of India's vaccination programme, and the remaining 50 per cent of the capacity will be for the state governments and the private hospitals, it said in a statement.

Phase III of the vaccination programme will begin from May 1 under which all adults can take the vaccine shot.
