Gummy Vitamins Recall: Vitafusion Products Pulled for Having Metal Mesh

Church & Dwight Co. issued a voluntary recall Wednesday of select Vitafusion gummy products for "the possible presence of a metallic mesh material."

The company made the decision after investigating two consumer reports into the matter. The metallic mesh material is believed to only be present in select products manufactured between October 29 and November 3, 2020.

In a statement announcing the recall, Church & Dwight Co. noted it is presently unaware of any reports of consumer illness or injury. However, it also warned that ingesting a metallic material could lead to damage of the digestive tract.

The Church & Dwight statement emphasized the company is working closely with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and following all of the agency's recommendations and protocols. The FDA also shared news of the recall on its website, as it does with all recalls, market withdrawal, or safety alerts as a public service.

Only Vitafusion products with the listed universal product codes (UPC) and lot codes are believed to possibly contain the mesh material, and no other products are included in this recall. Although the recalled Vitafusion gummies were manufactured during a four-day period in October and November, the products were distributed to in-store and e-commerce retailers from November 13, 2020 through April 9, 2021.

Church & Dwight advised consumers who may have purchased any one of the products listed to stop consumption immediately. They should contact the company's Consumer Affairs team at 1-800-981-4710 before disposing of the product to be eligible for a full refund. Additional questions can also be directed to the Consumer Affairs team Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EDT.

If a consumers feels ill or injured, they could immediately contact Church & Dwight's Safety Call center at 1-888-234-1828.
