CHANDIGARH: Due to spurt in Covid-19 cases, the
Indian Army’s
Western Command has geared up its all formations in the region to tackle the situation by assisting the civilian administration to meet any eventuality.
The Western Command, which has significant manpower and infrastructure in the region has assured the state governments of Punjab, Haryana,
Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and UT Chandigarh that it would provide all kind of assistance, including medical, maintenance of law and order, setting up of quarantine facilities and distribution of essential items etc.
‘Formations geared up to help civil admn’Col Jasdeep Sandhu, director civil military affairs said that on behalf of Lt Gen R P Singh, Army Commander, Western Command, the executive heads of states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, and UT Chandigarh had been assured of all kind of assistance required from the military formations to combat the prevalent crisis.
“The army commander has assured that all the formations under the area of responsibility of Western Command are geared up to meet emerging challenges and to assist the civil administration in the fight against Covid-19 incoming times,” said the spokesperson of the Western Command, which is the frontline operational command of the Indian Army guarding the western front of the country.
The operational area of the Western Command includes Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, UT Chandigarh, and some parts of Jammu and Kashmir. The command has vast infrastructure and its hospital at Chandimandir is one of the advanced healthcare institutes of the armed forces.
