Margao
Covid infected bodies are still lying in the Margao mortuary and that the state government has not made any arrangements to dispose them off, claimed the Margao legislator and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat on Tuesday.
He wrote to the district collector, south urging him to immediately issue orders for disposal of all the unclaimed bodies lying in the mortuary including those not infected
with Covid.
“I am informed that almost 18 to 20 unclaimed bodies some of which are Covid infected are lying in the mortuary as the government has not made any arrangements for disposing the same. I am shocked to know that the disposal of these bodies is pending because the government did not pay the Margao Municipal Council for the same,’’ he said in the letter written to the south Goa collector.
He said there are rising number of deaths and that almost all the cremation blocks of the Margao crematorium were occupied with Covid infected bodies. “The local institution Mathgramastha Hindu Sabha which manages the cremation had extended full cooperation. I am even ready to make the payments to the Margao civic body for disposal of the bodies,’’
Kamat added.
Meanwhile, the chief officer of the Margao municipal council, Agnelo Fernandes said that two bodies were disposed off on Tuesday after the south Goa police forwarded the proposal for disposal of these bodies. Two more bodies will be disposed off on Wednesday,’’
he added.
