Lucknow, Apr 20 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the senior officials to conduct RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) test of the migrant workers returning to the state and provide the necessary medical aid to those in need.

CM Yogi, who is in self-isolation, held a high-level Covid review meeting with the senior officials on Tuesday and undertook a detailed review of the current covid situation and the availability of medical resources across the state amid the influx of migrant workers from Delhi, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.

'Conduct RT-PCR tests on all migrant labourers and ensure those testing positive are quarantined and provided food and adequate medical aid,' instructed the CM.

Subsequently, after 14 days of monitoring in the isolation centres, these migrants will be sent to their respective home districts by the buses of the State Transport Corporation.

He also directed the officials to constitute 'nigrani samitis' at the level of every gram panchayat and municipal ward. He instructed officials to keep a strict vigil in high-load districts such as Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Ghaziabad and GB Nagar.

The CM said that the beds in SGPGI, KGMU and Ram Manohar Lohia should also be increased for Covid patients and warned of strict action in case of any callousness attitude.

Amid the rising cases of coronavirus infection in the state capital, despite all measures, the hospitals and health systems are increasingly coming under pressure. To ensure smooth and timely admission of critical Covid patients, CM Yogi directed the state health department to appoint a nodal officer for each Covid care hospital in Lucknow.

Mr Adityanath also directed the senior officials to increase the number of dedicated Covid Hospitals in Lucknow, and that King George’s Medical University (KGMU) and Balrampur Hospital should function as designated Covid Hospitals.

'Additional beds should be provided in these hospitals in the next two days. The TS Mishra Hospital, Integral and Hind Medical Colleges in Lucknow also must be expanded as dedicated Covid Hospitals,' instructed the CM, adding that 'There will neither be any shortage of essential medicines in any district of the state, nor will there be lack of beds for Covid and non-Covid patients'.

At present, more than 4500 beds are available in Lucknow and the number of beds will be expanded by adding new hospitals to L-2 and L-3 category, which will further increase the capacity.

The CM also issued directives to double the number of Covid beds in all districts of the state. He ordered expansion of 200-200 beds in all districts with immediate effect.

'Arrangements for 200-225 additional beds should be made in all the districts and effective action should be taken to further increase the number of beds in the state capital,' the CM said.

Sufficient number of ICU beds should be made available in districts with high number of active Covid cases that include Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Kanpur Nagar, Gorakhpur, Meerut and Jhansi, added the CM.

The beds in all districts shall be equipped with oxygen facilities. In this way, about 15,000 beds will be increased in 75 districts with immediate effect.

The CM also asked the Chief Minister's office, Chief Secretary's office, Additional Chief Secretary (health) and Principal Secretary (medical education) to regularly monitor the arrangements.

He also instructed to make additional arrangements for Covid beds at Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital and United Medicity (Hospital & Medical College) in Prayagraj which currently have the capacity of 800 beds.

Besides increasing medical facilities, CM Yogi Adityanath also gave strict instructions to ramp up the RT-PCR testing in Varanasi.
