Hyderabad, Apr 20 (UNI) Telangana's second wave of infection shows no sign of slowing down as the state added a record 5,926 fresh COVID-19 cases until 2000 hours on Monday, which is the highest single-day tally since the outbreak of the pandemic, to push the cumulative caseload to 3,61,359 till date.
Coronavirus deaths surged to 1,856 after a record eighteen patients succumbed to the deadly virus in the last 24 hours, translating a case fatality rate of 0.51 per cent as against the countrywide mortality rate of 1.2 per cent, according to a state health department bulletin here on Tuesday.
A total of 2,209 people have recovered from COVID-19 statewide taking the overall recoveries thus far to 3,16,650 constituting a recovery rate of 87.62 per cent while the National recovery rate was 85.6 per cent.
The number of active cases in the state currently stands at 42,853, the bulletin said.
Between Sunday and Monday, about 1,22,143 swab samples were tested in the state to detect the
contagious virus and out of which the results of 6,033 swab samples are awaited.
Cumulatively, more than 1.22 crore COVID-19 tests have been carried out in the state so far since the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) remained the main contributor of the infection by registering a maximum 793 new Coronavirus cases during the last 24 hours followed by Medchal Malkajigiri district (488), Rangareddy district (455), Nizamabad district (444), Kamareddy district (262), Khammam district (247), Warangal Urban district (208), Jagityal district (205), Mahabubnagar district (195), Mancherial district (188), Sanagreddy district (184), Karimnagar district (168), Siddipet and Nirmal districts (167) each, Nagarkurnool district (149), Nalgonda district (144), Vikarabad and Wanaparthy districts (129) each, Medak district (124), Suryapet district (121), Yadadri Bhongri district (117), Rajanna Sircilla district (116), Bhadradri Kothagudem district (113), Adilabad district (105) and Warangal Rural district (103).
The remaining COVID-19 cases have been registered by other districts, the bulletin added.
