Uttar Pradesh government imposes weekend lockdown in state amid surge in COVID-19 cases
Uttar Pradesh government has decided to imposed weekend lockdown to curb the Covid-19 infection in the state.
Earlier, The Uttar Pradesh government’s move to put hold on the lockdown ordered yesterday by the Allahabad High Court in Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Kanpur, and Gorakhpur till April 26.
“There shall be an interim stay on the order of the high court,” a bench of apex court headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde said while hearing the state government’s plea against the order passed on Monday.
Now, Uttar Pradesh government has decided to imposed weekend lockdown to curb the Covid-19 infection in the state.
Yogi Adityanath’s government has decided to go into a lockdown every weekend as to control Covid-19 infections spreading rapidly in the state. There will be a complete shut down on Saturdays and Sundays even as the night curfew continues on weekdays.
The decision came on a day Uttar Pradesh reported 28,211 new Covid-19 cases and 167 deaths, taking the state’s overall figure to nearly 8.8 lakh infections and 10,000 fatalities.
The decision was taken today during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to review the situation in the state in the wake of the spiraling cases of the disease. A night curfew of 8 pm to 7 am is already in place.
“Throughout the state, there will be night curfew. Throughout the state, the corona curfew will be enforced from Friday evening to Monday morning,” said Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi, as quoted by PTI.
“Only essential services will be allowed. Night curfew will remain imposed in all districts,” said Awanish K Awasthi, Additional Chief Secy, Home Dept.
