Chennai, Apr 20 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit
on Tuesday said the Universities should be front runners in
creating awareness about COVID in the society.
He also urged Vice-Chancellors (VCs) of State universities
to popularise corona awareness programme in the society.
Addressing a virtual meeting of VCs of 21 state universities,
the Governor asked the Universities to play a crucial role,
by utilizing the vast potential of students, to create an
effective awareness about Corona in the society.
He insisted that compulsory wearing of masks, frequent washing
and sanitization of hands and maintaining social distance must
be practiced in the fight against Corona.
'The teaching community should educate the students online
about the importance of practicing the corona appropriate
behaviour and the students in turn should take the message
to their homes and their family members and finally the
message should disseminate into the community at large and
the society should successfully fight against corona", he said.
The Vice-Chancellor of the MGR Medical University and many
other Vice-Chancellors of the State Universities shared their
views and plan of action for the dissemination of information
about COVID-appropriate behaviour, prevention of corona
virus and popularization of vaccination among the society.
The Governor desired that the Universities of Tamil Nadu
should be the front runners in creating awareness among
the society and every University should take up the
responsibility until the Corona pandemic gets over.
