Bengaluru, April 20: Delhi Capitals put up an all-round show as they beat defending champions Mumbai Indians in their Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday (April 20).
Tuesday’s victory was sweet for the Capitals, who had lost all their matches against Mumbai in the previous edition, including the final. With the win Delhi climbed up to the second spot on the table with three wins from four matches.
After being asked to bowl first, Amit Mishra led the bowling attack for Delhi as they restricted the defending champions to 137/9.
Despite losing opener Quinton de Kock (2) early, Rohit Sharma along with Suryakumar Yadav steadied Mumbai’s innings. After the early wicket MI were flying at 67/1. But Amit Mishra removed Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya in the ninth over and that set off the collapse. From 67/1, Mumbai were reduced to 84/6.
Mishra’s four wicket haul and Avesh Khan’s two wicket scalp saw Mumbai restricted to a meagre total.
While chasing it down, Delhi lost Prithvi Shaw early. But an inform Shikhar Dhawan (45 off 42) along with Steven Smith (33 off 29) kept Delhi’s chase alive. As in their previous games Mumbai took the game down to the wire, before a couple of no balls and a cameo by Shimron Hetmyer in the final overs saw Delhi stop their rot against Mumbai and come out victorious.
With Tuesday’s win, Delhi have now won three out of four matches. Meanwhile, Mumbai have now won two matches and lost two.
