Following the storming of the US Capitol in Washington on 6 January, Apple threw Parler out of the App Store, on the grounds that the platform had been used to plan the attack.
But now - according to CNN - things appear to be looking up for the conservative discussion platform. Parler will soon be available for download from the App Store once again, as the developers have promised to moderate content and remove posts that incite violence.
Parler tried to get back on the App Store in March, but was unsuccessful. It was understood at the time that the changes the developers had instituted - such as hiring a new content manager who is an outspoken critic of Donald Trump - were insufficient. In emails to the developers Apple included screenshots of user profiles with swastikas.
In recent years technology companies such as Apple and Google have been heavily criticised by conservative groups for an alleged bias in favour of liberal political views, with the removal of Parler from the App Store and Google Play cited as a crucial piece of evidence for this. Interestingly enough, however, Apple has also been criticised for not going far enough: later in January the company was sued for not banning Telegram too.
