Ex-sarpanch of Sao Jose De Areal village panchayat Vinney Mascarenhas, who is a panch member, was allegedly assaulted by two brothers from Mugali-Margao while he along with secretary of village panchayat Sao Jose De Areal and others visited Mugali for an inspection.

Police sub-inspector Mahesh Velip, who is conducting the investigations, has registered a case under sections 353 (for assault on a public servant while discharging his duty), 504 (for abusing) and 506 (ii) read with 34 of IPC for threatening with dire consequences.

Maina-Curtorim police said that the duo has been arrested. Police disclosed their names as Carmo Mascarenhas and Antonio Mascarenhas.

Maina-Curtorim police said that on Tuesday morning ex sarpanch, panch member Vinney Mascarenhas along with the secretary visited the Mugali to conduct inspection of compound wall. Police said that as per complaint during the inspection there were arguments and the accused abused the ex sarpanch and threatened him with dire consequences. Police said that he was also assaulted. He was sent for medical examination and an offence was registered. Police said that during the course of investigation two brothers were arrested. Further investigation is in progress.
