An Initiative of the School Connect Programme, MAKAUT

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), WB is concerned about the school children, especially in this pandemic situation and wants to stand beside them. That is the reason behind its School Connect initiative.
The Secondary and Higher Secondary exams are at present knocking at the door. This year the exams are going to be organized a little bit differently. This altered modus operandi of the examinations has left the students a bit confused and disturbed. To drive away all the uneasiness, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), WB under its School Connect Initiative has been organizing an online programme which will be held every day from 15th to 28th April between 7:30 to 9:30 pm. The sessions under MAKAUT er Bandhan will be addressed by various school teachers of the state, to whom the students may ask different questions. A single subject will be discussed each day. Subjects like Mathematics, Physics, History, Geography, English, Bengali will be discussed in detail.
A dedicated website for School Connect Programme was also inaugurated on the 15th of April, the day coinciding with Bengali Nabobarsha, that is, Poila Baishakh.

At the same time a Newsletter for School Connect Programme was inaugurated on the 15th of April. The name of the Newsletter is MAKAUT er Sparsho and its first issue was inaugurated for April 2021. It contains write-ups by experts on varied subjects and also write-ups by enthusiastic school students across West Bengal.
Useful information about the University, its various innovative courses, fee structure etc are mentioned in it.
A Magazine named Vijnan Mela was also inaugurated on the same day. School students can also send their write-ups here.
The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of MAKAUT, WB Prof. (Dr.) Saikat Maitra is the key person behind all these efforts. On the occasion of inauguration on 15th April, he has pointed out that higher education is under the ambit of tertiary sector, where universities operate. In order to have a strong base for expansion of higher education, the primary and secondary sectors, that is, school education must be improved. All these initiatives will enhance the connectivity with school children. Prof. Maitra pointed out that the ratio of young generation to total population is one of the highest in India. This is our asset and the skill development of young students is essential for social upliftment and also for expansion of the scope of higher education. The School Connect Programme aims at achieving these objectives.
The Registrar of MAKAUT Dr. Partha Pratim Lahiri said all these initiatives are Outreach Programmes, which are emphasized by the Universities Grants Commission (UGC) with the objective of helping the society directly. The Controller of Examinations of MAKAUT Dr. Subhasis Datta mentioned that the students will be able to revise their subjects by participating in the teaching programmes and that will be very helpful.
Dr. Partha Karmakar, Deputy Secretary (Academic), West Bengal Board of Secondary Education praised MAKAUT for these ideas and said that he will always lend a helping hand for the University. Mr. Pritimoy Sanyal, Technical Assistant, MAKAUT, WB said that the entire programme of lessons by school teachers will be archived, so that if any student misses a class, he/she can listen to it later on.
