Read More | Source: Times of India | Title: Ladakh apricot festival draws travellers from Maharashtra, Delhi NEW DELHI: The first-ever festival marked to put spotlight on cultivation of apricot in Ladakh by the UT administration after 2019 historic reorganisation has turned the town into a tourist spot, with thousands of vacationers, bagpackers and honeymooners rushing to the cold desert for stay and travel.
Apricot processing in Ladakh is one of the primary agricultural and commercial trade activities with jam, juice, oil and dried-fruit allowing farmers to showcase these varieties to exporters and retailers from rest of India.

The festival is being organised at five locations in Kargil and four in Leh with attendance guidelines on COVID in place.

The Ladakh administration has altered its earlier schedule for the event which began on April6. It was scheduled to end on April 18 but two fresh days have been included to accomodate fresh batch of travellers to the festival both in Leh and Kargil amid a huge response.
Separately, the event would kick off with a new cultural programme, display of local handicrafts in Hardass on April 24 and Karkichoo on April 26.

Travellers from Gujarat, Maharashtra and Delhi and Chandigarh expressed joy at the ongoing festival in Baima in Leh.
“Its a beautiful feeling to experience to the Dard Aryan tribe culture and see the apricot blosssom in full bloom. It helps us connect with flora and fauna of a region known otherwise for just expeditions” said Shobha, travel firm owner from Pune.
