15 years old boy builds own 'e-cycle'

Haobijam Chandrasekhar has made own e-cycle by attaching motor and batteries to an old bicycle.
Haobijam Chandrasekhar, the fifteen year old boy from Kangla Siphai is currently studying in 9th standard at Leishemba Maheikol Chingarel and youngest son of Haobijam Ongbi Landhoni and Haobijam Senyai.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, H Chandrasekhar said he had bought an old cycle from his friend by paying just Rs 150.He had it repaired and he installed a motor to its freewheel and it was connected to a battery.
The motor had cost him Rs 6119 while the battery came at a price of Rs 4500, he added.
The e-cycle can go 20kms on a single charged and it can be increased with better quality batteries and motors, he added.
He added that he had started the construction before 'Yaoshang' festival and by taking help from Youtube tutorials, he had completed it in such a short period of time.
This e-cycle will help in reducing noise and air pollutions, ease traffic congestion and will also be helpful during shortage of petrol, he added.
He had being planning to built the e-cycle for the last 4 years after seeing students struggle with inability to buy two wheelers for college and tuition classes and there are also plan to built more models in future.
Haobijam Chandrasekhar has been receiving number of orders and enquries on the cost and requirements of converting their cycles into e-cycles.
However the need for welding machines and other equipment has made the project stand still.
Regarding other projects he had worked on, H Chandrasekhar told The Sangai Express that during his free time at home, he has work on drip irrigation model, repaired electronic items like radio, record players and electric rice cookers.
Haobijam Senyai said all of his son's project are done by himself and he is self taught.
He also expressed desire to apply for start-up schemes launched by the Government of Manipur.
