CADA organises torch rally, sit-in protest

Expressing the need for a retrial at a higher Court following the acquittal of former ADC Chairman, Lhukhosei Zou and all those involved in Phoudel drug case, Kalika Lairembi Women Welfare Association and CADA Imphal East District Committee took out a torch rally yesterday at Irilbung Kalika in Imphal East district.
The rally attended by 120 women was taken out from the shed of Kalika Lairembi Women Welfare Association and went around Irilbung Kalika.
Slogans including 'Drug Free Manipur', 'Say No to Drugs', 'Darkness to Light through Candle Lighting', 'Zero Down Drug Abuse', etc were raised during the rally.
Voicing the same demands, Hiranmei Meira Paibi and CADA Kakching District Committee jointly organised a sit-in protest at Hiyanglam Hiranmei in Kakching district on April 16, where Sorokhaibam Nena, president CADA Kakching District Committee expressed concern with the increasing cases of drug abuse and stated that the people of the State are highly disappointed with the conviction of the driver and helper instead of Lhukhosei Zou who was arrested with drugs worth crores from his quarters.
In order to restore the faith of the public in the judiciary, she appealed to the Government to take the case to a higher court and award befitting punishments to those involved in the drug case.
