Bhubaneswar reports 338 new Covid cases

BHUBANESWAR: The capital city has reported 338 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
Khurda district, of which Bhubaneswar is a part, has reported 704 Covid cases on Sunday. This is the highest number of cases reported from a district during the second wave. On Saturday, the city had reported 451 Covid cases. It decreased to 338 on Sunday.
Among the fresh cases 290 were from local contacts while 48 were from quarantine, sources in the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
With this, the Covid-19 tally in the city reached 35,679 while 250 persons have succumbed to the virus so far. Currently, there are 2,527 active Covid cases and 32,881 recovered cases in the city.
The BMC continues screening and registering of passengers at the city airport and the railway station. Sunday marked the second day of night curfew in the capital.
The civic body has appealed to citizens to wear masks wherever they go out. The BMC squad and police carried out Covid-19 enforcement activities at Unit-1 and Unit-2 haat in the southeast zone of the city. “If shops do not follow norms, we will impose a fine on them,” said a BMC official.
Lingaraj Temple has been closed to devotees after detection of Covid-19 cases among some servitors.
