In a fierce reply to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s letter to Prime Minister regarding fight against Covid-19 and advise on managing the pandemic crisis, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan Singh on Monday asked Singh to urge Congress party members to follow his valuable advice and his offer of constructive cooperation.
In a response to the former Prime Minister’s letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Harsh Vardhan wrote that it is saddening that while Dr. Singh very well understands the importance of vaccination as an important method of fighting the COVID-19 battle, people in responsible positions in the Congress as well as in the state governments formed by party do not seem to share his view.
The Union Health Minister tweeted that history should be kinder to Dr. Manmohan Singh ji if leaders of the Congress party followed his advice in such extraordinary times.
The Union Minister accused Congress leaders and Congress-led state governments of spreading false information regarding the efficacy of the vaccines, thereby fuelling vaccine hesitancy and playing with the lives of our countrymen.
Dr. Vardhan went on to say those who drafted the former Prime Minster’s letter had misled him on facts in public domain. He said that the suggestion made by Singh about allowing import of vaccines on April 18 had already been taken into consideration. A decision on the import of vaccines approved by credible foreign authorities, had already been taken by the government week ahead of his suggestion, he said.
Similarly, a decision had already been taken on providing funds and other concessions to vaccine-makers, he said.
