Rush at station as Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation tracks those without valid certs

BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar railway station witnessed a massive rush on Sunday with the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) tracking passengers, mostly migrant workers, travelling without the mandatory RT-PCR negative reports or vaccination certificates. Most of them were from Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and New Delhi. Some of them had to change two to three trains to reach here.
The passengers, who were travelling without the necessary documents, had to queue up in front of the BMC kiosks at the station for the registration of their travel details. Following their registration, they were issued exit passes, in accordance with a fresh government order. They had to produce these passes before leaving the station.
“I could not undergo the Covid test as I was in a hurry to return home. I will stay in home quarantine for seven days, according to the Covid-19 guidelines of the state government. We had to wait for our turn to register our names and other details, after which we were given exit passes,” Subrat Naik from Salia Sahi here said after returning from Bengaluru.
The station has been witnessing a footfall of around 20,000 passengers and other rail users every day.
