Meanwhile, with shortage in supplies being flagged across the country, Delhi Sunday joined the growing list of states that are scrambling to ensure adequate availability of oxygen for Covid patients as the country continued to witness a rise in coronavirus cases.
The Centre, however, placed the onus of tackling the situation on state governments, with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal saying that they “should keep demand under control”.
Earlier, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal pointed out that Delhi is facing an “acute shortage of oxygen”. “In view of sharply increasing cases, Delhi needs much more than normal supply. Rather than increasing supply, our normal supply has been sharply reduced and Delhi’s quota has been diverted to other states,” he tweeted.
The Delhi government has set up two control rooms to monitor and manage the supply of "Covid-19 management drugs" amid a massive rise in coronavirus cases in the national capital, reported PTI.
Delhi on Sunday recorded the biggest jump in its daily Covid-19 tally with 25,462 fresh cases, while the positivity rate shot up to 29.74 per cent -- meaning almost every third sample being tested in the city is turning out to be positive.
In an order, the government's Drugs Control Department said that the step has been taken to address reports of "acute shortage of COVID-19 management drugs due to a sudden rise in COVID-19 cases in Delhi".

From helping people get through lockdowns to saving lives of Covid-19 patients, cops have always risen to the occasion when it comes to the country fighting the novel coronavirus.
The latest example of this was seen in Delhi on Monday. Hours after the daughter of an 80-year-old man suffering from Covid-19 called the cops to help her take her father to a hospital, Delhi Police got him admitted to RML Hospital.
The man had put up a note outside his house in Rajinder Nagar saying his body should be handed over to the police after his death.
The Delhi government Monday directed all Drug Inspectors to personally monitor the entire procurement process of Remdesivir injection, starting from placement of order and its receipt by the distributor/dealer from the Company depot/CFA, news agency ANI reported.
It doesn’t need a galaxy of experts to list what’s needed: boosting Covid vaccination, augmenting oxygen and beds, expanding genome sequencing, ramping up testing and tracing, bringing down the infection level — all of this double quick.
But as the second wave climbs higher each day, both in cases and deaths and the Centre and states scramble to respond, there’s a growing — and grudging — acceptance that one obvious fact eluded many. That, in a population of a billion plus, a pandemic doesn’t vanish as it seemed to do barely a couple of months ago. That a second wave was going to come.
A 'Corona Curfew' was imposed in Bhopal Municipal Corporation and Berasia municipality areas from 6 am on Monday to 6 am on April 26, in the wake of the current Covid-19 situation. Below are some visuals from Bhopal.
