Vijayawada, Apr 19 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh reported 5,963 new cases of Coronavirus while 27 more patients died during the last 24 hours and the government declared holidays to schools.
A health bulletin here on Monday said that 37,765 swab samples were tested in a period of 24 hours ending at 10 am today of which 5,963 were diagnosed positive for Coronavirus while 27 more patients died. The pandemic has so far claimed 7,437 lives.
Highest number of 1182 fresh cases was reported in Chittoor district and 938 in Guntur district. The total number of positive cases has gone up to 9,68,000 of which 9,12,510 have been discharged from various hospitals as they recovered. At present there are 48,053 active cases in the State. So far 1,57,15,757 swab samples have been diagnosed in AP.
The deaths of four Secretariat employees and two high court employees created a panicky situation in the secretariat and the employees demanded permission to work from home.
Meanwhile, keeping in view the rapid spread of pandemic, the government announced holidays to the schools for the classes up to 9 th class. Education minister Adimulapu Suresh said that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy after reviewing the Covid situation in the state, decided to declare holidays to the schools up to 9 th class.
However, classes for 10 th class and Intermediate would continue as usual, he said. The minister announced that the education year for school education has completed.
