As COVID-19 cases continue to rise, Delhi has emerged as the worst affected city, with nearly 75 thousand active cases as of Monday morning. Against this backdrop, hours after the weekend curfew came to an end, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced a week long lockdown of sorts for the national capital.

Speaking virtually, Kejriwal said that a six day long lockdown would be in effect from 10 pm tonight (Monday) to 5 am next Monday (April 26). As per reports, all private offices will be working from homes. Only government offices and essential services will remain open. Essential services, food services, medical services will continue. Weddings can be held with a gathering of only 50 people, passes will be issued separately for it.

"Private medical personnel exempted on production of valid ID. Pregnant women/patients going for medical aid along with attendant, exempted on production of valid ID/doctor's prescription/medical papers. Those going for testing/vaccination exempted on production of valid ID," the Delhi government said.

The media will be exempted on production of valid ID card. There is presently no restriction on inter-state and intra-state movement and the transportation of essential goods, and no separate permission or e-pass required for the same. Religious places shall be permitted to open, but no visitors will be allowed, he said.

"During curfew, movement of persons for marriage related gatherings up to 50 persons (on production of soft or hard copy of marriage card) and funeral related gatherings up to 20 persons is continued to be allowed," Kejriwal added.
