EC transfer 4 IPS in Bengal

Kolkata, Apr 19 (UNI) The Election Commission on Monday transferred four IPS officers in West Bengal.
The poll panel removed Bhaskar Mukherji from the post of the superintendent of police of Purba Bardhaman, which goes to the poll in the sixth phase, and replaced him with Ajeet Kumar Singh, according to an order of the EC.
Birbhum district police superintendent Meeraj Khalid has been removed and replaced by Nagendra Nath Tripathi, a trusted IPS officer of the EC.
The EC had recently sent Ajeet Kumar Singh, a 2011-batch IPS officer of the Counter Intelligence Force (a special force of the state police to fight against the Maoists), with special responsibility to ensure peaceful election in Howrah district.
He was reinstated in his previous post after polling in Howrah district in Bengal. Singh is also said to be a trusted officer of the poll body.
Nagendra Nath Tripathi, a 2009 batch IPS officer, was sent by the EC to Nandigram, the high-voltage assembly constituency in the state, to ensure the smooth conduct of the election.
Asansol-Durgapur police commissioner Sukesh Jain, meanwhile, has been replaced by Mithesh Jain.
Apart from these three officers, sub divisional police officer (SDPO) of Birbhum district Abhishek Roy has been replaced by Nagaraj Devarakonda.
